Moving around

Air Transport

Kenya has four main international airports, two of which are used for passengers and the other two, largely for cargo transport in and out of the country. There are many other airports throughout the country which are used for internal transport, thus allowing for quick and easy access to all regions of the country.

Rail Transport

Kenyan Railways system is run by a private company that deals with the entire railway system in the country. Although the system is not very modernised, it is quite efficient. It is largely used for cargo transportation. There are some trains that transport people between Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa. The first class coaches are a comfortable, spacious and affordable means to travel.There are excursions that can be arranged for steam trains to various locations within the country.

Public Transportation by Road

This comprises of buses and small vans. There are many companies that offer these services and as such, transport is readily available, usually without prior booking arrangements. Buses usually leave in the mornings and at night. It is advisable, however to make bookings for these, especially during the holiday season.
